Belmar Councilman Won’t Seek Reelection
Tom Carvelli has declined to seek reelection in 2022, according to a statement. Here's why.
BELMAR, NJ - Tom Carvelli has declined to seek reelection in 2022, citing professional and personal responsibilities.
“Changes in both my personal and professional commitments have made me realize that I may not be able to commit the proper attention and focus the Council and our residents deserve,” he said in a statement sent to Patch. “As such, I have decided it is the right decision to not seek re-election at the end of my term.”
“It has been a privilege to serve the public as a member of the Belmar Council since 2019. I am proud of our accomplishments and the work we have done to ensure Belmar is a great place to live,” he added.

Carvelli is nearly a lifelong resident of the Jersey Shore and has lived in Belmar since 2007. He has served on the Belmar Council since 2019.
“Tom has been invaluable to us during his time on the council,” said Mayor Mark Walsifer. “He’s an engineer by trade, and his precision and his analysis have directly benefited the residents of this town. We’ve accomplished so much with Tom’s leadership. Just this year, we replaced aging and unsafe beachfront playground structures with two brand-new pirate ships. We also resurfaced tennis and basketball courts throughout the Boro, and even added pickleball courts in response to resident input. We made sure our residents and visitors could once again enjoy movies on the beach by purchasing a new movie screen and audio equipment.”
