Bradley Beach Man Hits Veteran After Fleeing Store; Attempts Second Escape from Police

The 42-year-old had attempted to steal merchandise from Wall Kmart, hit a Veteran while fleeing, and then tried to flee cops in the hospital

A Bradley Beach man made multiple escape attempts from arrest on Tuesday, after fleeing from Kmart security staff, running down a Veteran, and then fleeing from police in the hospital, according Wall Township police.

Daniel Ferrara, 42, is alleged to have attempted stealing merchandise from the Route 35 Kmart in Wall Township, and then fled when Kmart Loss Prevention officers tried to stop him at the door, Chief Robert Brice said.

Ferrara is then alleged to have taken off on a bicycle, and struck a 69-year-old Wall Township resident and Veteran. The unnamed resident was treated for minor injuries by the Wall Township First Aid squad, according to Chief Brice.

Ferrara was caught on Highway 71 and Woodland Avenue on the Belmar/Wall border by Wall Township Patrol Officer Ian Hatch, and taken into custody without incident, Chief Brice said.

While being processed at police headquarters, Ferrara experienced a medical issue and was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, according to Brice. Ferrara was cleared by the hospital and while medical were finalizing his care, he attempted escape once more. He was re-captured by Patrol Officer Vincent Reinecke after a short chase through the hospital.

Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State law.
