Former Hotel Owner Tried To Bribe Belmar Fire Marshal

Gabe Baron, Galloway Township, tried to avoid summonses issued on his property, prosecutor says.

FREEHOLD – The former co-owner of the Belmar Beach Hotel has been charged with attempting to bribe a Belmar fire marshal to avoid being issued summonses, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni said.

Gabe Baron, 71, Galloway Township, is charged with second-degree offer of unlawful benefit to public servant for official behavior and third-degree offer of unlawful benefit to public servant for official behavior, the prosecutor said.

Baron offered to make a cash donation to a Belmar fire company in prevent summonses and penalties issued for his property by a municipal fire marshal. The fire marshal immediately terminated the conversation and alerted Belmar police. Gramiccioni said.

Baron faces a sentence of five to ten years in a New Jersey state prison if he is convicted of the second-degree offense. He faces up to three to five years if convicted of the third-degree offense, Gramiccioni said.
