MANASQUAN, NJ - The Glimmer Glass Bridge that connects Manasquan and Brielle along Fisk Avenue is deteriorating faster than anticipated, so the bridge will remain closed for the next 8 to 12 weeks, Monmouth County officials said.
The timeline for the bridge along Fisk Avenue will depend on delivery of materials and whether or not additional work is needed, according to a release on the county website.
“We understand that a closure of this duration represents a significant disruption to travel in and around the impacted communities,” said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the county’s Department of Public Works and Engineering. “While we sincerely regret the inconvenience to the traveling public, we must come down on the side of safety and take whatever measures are necessary to ensure the integrity of the bridge.

The bridge was slated to reopen on Nov. 16, but deterioration of the timber piles that support sections of the bridge was discovered last week during routine maintenance.
County engineers are working with the state Department of Transportation and the Department of Environmental Protection to obtain the necessary approvals and permits for the work. The county has contracted with divers and an emergency repair contractor to address the issues.
