Glimmer Glass Bridge Repair Project Underway in Manasquan

Construction has begun during the first week of October on the Glimmer Glass Bridge in Manasquan, which was damaged during the summer.

The Monmouth County Department of Engineering held a pre-construction meeting with George Harms Construction Company Inc., the contractor who was awarded the Glimmer Glass Bridge Repair project by Monmouth County.

The bridge, located on Fisk Avenue between Manasquan and Brielle, was heavily damaged in August. Significant damage to sections of the bridge deck appeared to have been caused by a severe overload, according to officials from Monmouth County’s Department of Public Works and Engineering, who assessed the damage. The bridge has a posted three ton limit.

According to the town officials, project highlights for the as discussed at the September 29 meeting are as follows:

• The project began by schedule on October 1st and is expected to be completed by early April 2015, ahead of the original expected completion date of pre-Memorial Day.

• Construction is expected to take place Monday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. although it is anticipated that construction will end each day at approximately 4 p.m. Construction on Sunday will only take place in case of an emergency.

• During this time, homeowners should expect construction noise to take place.

• Additionally, beginning October 1st, 2014, the Glimmer Glass Bridge will be closed to pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
