High Bacteria Levels Found On Five Monmouth County Beaches

The state Department of Environmental Protection will test again today.

The state Department of Environmental Protection has issued a swimming advisory for five ocean beaches in Monmouth County after high bacteria levels were found during testing, according to nj.com.

The affected beaches include : Broadway and Spray Avenue in Neptune Township; the public beach in Sea Bright, and Brown Avenue and York Avenue in Spring Lake, said DEP spokesman Larry Hajna.

The DEP will sample the affected beaches every day until the advisory is lifted, he said.

The state level of enterococci bacteria cannot exceed 104 colonies per 100 milliliters of water.

The heavy rain on Saturday most likely caused the rise in bacteria levels, said Hajna.
