Visitors to Belmar over the Labor Day weekend donated $56,776 to help Hurricane Harvey victims in a small town in Texas, according to the <a href="https://starnewsgroup.com/2017/09/06/belmar-offers-a-free-beach-day-for-labor-day/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Ocean Star.</a> Belmar officials decided to waive beach fees on Labor Day and instead ask for donations for the battered Rockport, Texas town. Mayor Matt Doherty said he was planning to fly to the town on Friday today to present the mayor with a check from the donations. Belmar placed donation boxes up and down the boardwalk at entrances to make it easier for people to contribute.
