Lakewood Man Killed In Midnight Shooting At Neptune Apartment Complex: Prosecutor's Office

Neptune police and the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office are investigating a fatal shooting shortly after midnight on May 14, according to a spokesman for the Prosecutor's Office.

Authorities received "multiple" 911 calls at 12:38 a.m. reporting that gunshots were fired in the Jumping Brook Apartments West complex on Route 33 in Neptune, said spokesman Charles Webster.

When police arrived, they found Mark Ruffin Sr., 41, of Lakewood lying on the ground in the complex. They immediately began working on Ruffin before he was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Ruffin was pronounced dead at 2:47 a.m., Webster said.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and the Neptune Township Police Department are conducting a joint investigation.
