Man Dies After Falling From Bridge In Belmar

A man died after he either jumped or fell from the Rt. 35 bridge in Belmar Thursday night:

BELMAR, NJ — A man died after he either jumped or fell from the Rt. 35 bridge in Belmar Thursday night, Belmar Police announced on their Facebook page.

The man has not been identified.

At 9 p.m. Thursday, Belmar Police received a 911 call of a man in the water (the Shark River) near the Rt. 35 bridge. Arriving officers immediately searched the area under the bridge on the north side of the Belmar marina.

The man was found submerged on the opposite side of the walkway railing underneath the bridge.

The caller, who had witnessed the man fall over the railing from the walkway underneath the bridge, also tried to pull him out of the water.

The man was pulled from the water and taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center where lifesaving measures continued for approximately 80 minutes.

"Unfortunately, despite extensive efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased," said Belmar Police. "The incident remains under investigation by the Belmar Police Department. The victim's identity is being withheld at this time, pending next-of-kin notification."
