MANASQUAN – Manasquan has ended its recreation program season and placed limitations on its beach usage after a local coronavirus spike.

Michael Mangan, the council president, said there are 23 new cases in Manasquan and those connected to the outbreak have been contacted, isolated and/or quarantined.

After pausing it for a week, Mangan said the recreation program will be suspended for the rest of the season.

Mangan also said Manasquan will sell no more than 1,000 beach badges each day and will warn the public when the borough is nearing its daily limit.

He said the staff will shut down the beaches depending on the capacity.

The junior guard program, on the other hand, will resume at 8:30 a.m. on Monday with social distancing.

Mangan said the town needs to do its part to prevent the spread, and he asked the public to do its part in helping that effort.

"The only way we're going to actually get through this is doing the right thing now," he said.

Manasquan High School has pulled out of the Last Dance baseball tournament after the local coronavirus hit the borough, Gov. Phil Murphy confirmed.

Manasquan first suspended its recreation program after several beach and recreation employees were diagnosed with the coronavirus last week, officials said. Read more: Manasquan Suspends Recreation After Local COVID Outbreak (UPDATE)
