Monmouth County Beach Report: Last Weekend For Guarded Beaches In Harvey Cedars And Island Beach

Rip current risk and wave heights have decreased, finally.

The National Weather Service is calling for sunny skies early today and cool temperatures on Monmouth County beaches.

Skies will start out sunny, but will gradually become cloudy with a chance of showers. Highs will only be in the mid-60s. Winds will be from the northwest at 10 to 15 miles per hour.

The rip current risk is moderate today. Be sure to check with local beach patrols before you go in. Always swim within sight of lifeguards and never swim alone or at night. The NWS suggests you bring a floatation device with you in the water. The ocean water temperature is 71 degrees.

Wave heights have dropped considerably since last week. Waves will be around three feet, with easterly swells of two feet, becoming north around three feet in the afternoon.

There are very few guarded beaches open today. Island Beach State Park will be guarded today and tomorrow. There are two beaches open in Harvey Cedars. And that's it for 2017. Please do not swim on an unguarded beach. Too many people have died on Jersey Shore beaches during the summer of 2017 because they swam on unguarded beaches.Tide information...

The ultraviolet index is a four, which the NWS considers moderate. There is no lightning threat today.

High tide at Belmar rolled in at 4:05 a.m. Low tide will arrive at 10:12 a.m., followed by another high tide at 4:18 p.m.
