Murphy Vs. Ciattarelli: How Belmar Voted
In the closest gubernatorial election in decades, here's a look at how Belmar residents voted.
BELMAR, NJ — It has been the closest gubernatorial race in decades. With the race declared for Phil Murphy over Jack Ciattarelli with 98 percent of the votes counted statewide, here's a look at how Belmar and Monmouth County voted.
The voter turnout in Monmouth County was 47.85 percent (235,242 voters), according to unofficial tallies published by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office, Of 495,210 registered voters in the county, there are 146,933 registered Republicans, 144,131 registered Democrats, and 198,226 unaffiliated voters.
In Belmar, 40.62 percent of the borough’s registered voters cast ballots in the general election.

Of the total 1,902 participating voters in Belmar, 1,197 cast ballots for Ciattarelli and 666 opted for Murphy, according to the unofficial vote tallies.

For the NJ 30th District state senate race, Republican Robert W. Singer garnered 30,306 votes, beating out Democrat Dan Stinger (who reported 15,421 votes). In Belmar, 1,188 voters cast ballots for Singer, while 611 opted for the Democratic candidate, according to the unofficial vote tallies.
In the race for County Commissioner, incumbent Sue Kiley received 1,179 votes from locals, whereas Michael Beson trailed in Belmar with 608 votes. Kiley has since been declared the winner in the county, garnering a total 135,397 votes over Beson’s 87,696.
The official election results will be determined at the Board of Canvassers meeting on Nov. 15 and the County Clerk must certify official election results to the Secretary of State by Nov. 20.
As of 2 p.m. Friday, Murphy had a margin of 57,379 votes — 1,273,034 to 1,215,655 according to the Associated Press.
All ballots postmarked before Nov. 2 will be counted until Nov. 8.
