Rip Current Risk Still High In Monmouth County, Storms Later Today

The National Weather Service is predicting a high risk of rip currents for the third day in a row. That means stay out of the water, no matter how inviting it looks.

"A high risk of rip currents means dangerous and life-threatening conditions exist for all people entering the surf," according to the NWS. "People visiting the beaches should stay out of the high surf."

Waves will be around three to four feet, with southerly swells of four feet. The water temperature is 65 degrees. Southerly winds will be brisk at 15 to 20 miles per hour.

Skies will be mostly sunny this morning with temperatures in lower 80s. But things turn darker this afternoon and this evening, with scattered showers and thunderstorms predicted. Some of the thunderstorms could produce damaging wind gusts, torrential downpours and localized flash flooding.

The ultraviolet index is a 10, which the NWS considers very high. Winds will be breezy at 20 to 25 miles per hour. The lightning threat for today is moderate.

Low tide at Barnegat Inlet will roll in at 10:03 a.m. High tide will arrive at 4:16 p.m, followed by another low tide at 10:55 p.m.
