The New Jersey State Department of Transportation has plans to reopen the Route 71 Shark River Bridge on Friday, October 24.The movable bridge, which connects Belmar and Avon-by-the-Sea, was closed to traffic this week to allow maintenance to be conducted, including electrical work to replace and upgrade control equipment and gearboxes on the movable portion.The closure began at 7 a.m. on Monday, October 20, and is scheduled to continue until 4 p.m. on Friday.The movable span of the bridge has been kept in a raised position while the work is being completed, in order to allow marine traffic to pass.
