The Tug Of War Between Squan And Point Beach Is Still On

Despite the forecast calling for windy rain, event organizers, local first responders, and the Coast Guard feel confident about the event.

MANASQUAN, NJ - Despite the rainy forecast for this weekend, the third-annual intercoastal tug-of-war between Manasquan and Point Pleasant Beach is still on for Saturday.

According to Geoff Brown, a member of the organizing team, after meeting with local officials and the Coast Guard, they decided to move along with tomorrow’s festivities.

“Everyone is pretty comfortable with going ahead tomorrow,” Brown said. ‘It’s great to raise money for the two towns, plus it’s a long-standing rivalry that we are bringing back.”

All of the team registration fees for the events go towards the recreation departments for the two boroughs. In addition, competitors are raising money for Make-A-Wish.

“Make-A-Wish has been a partner for all three years, and all of the registration fees and sponsorships go to Manasquan and Point Pleasant Beach’s recreation departments,” Brown said.

There will be nine different heats spread out over two sessions: 12 to 1:10 p.m. and 1:40 to 2:30 p.m. featuring a team from Manasquan against a team from Point Beach, with the winning borough getting the Mayor’s Cup, which the Beach currently possesses.

Matchups include 94.3 The Point vs. 105.7 The Hawk, Jersey Mike’s Monmouth vs. Jersey Mike’s Ocean, Manasquan High School alumni vs. Point Pleasant Beach High School alumni, and Manasquan lifeguards vs. Point Pleasant Beach lifeguards.

The actual festival starts on both sides of the inlet at 11 a.m. and concludes at 3:45 p.m then is followed by post-game parties at the Salty Whale in Manasquan and The Wharfside Patio in Point Pleasant Beach.
