2 Flown To Trauma Center After Broadway Blvd. Crash In Manchester

A woman and man from Brick had to be extricated from a Jeep Cherokee following the crash, Manchester police said.

MANCHESTER, NJ — Two people were seriously injured Sunday night in a two-vehicle crash at Broadway Boulevard and Burnside Street in Manchester, police said Monday.

Briana Rodriguez, 23, and Anthony Fernandez, 21, both of Brick, had to be extricated from the blue 2021 Jeep Cherokee that Rodriguez was driving and were flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Capt. Albert Vega said.

The crash was reported at 8:38 p.m. Sunday. Vega said the investigation showed Rodriguez was driving south on Burnside Street and ran the stop sign at Broadway Boulevard and crossed into the path of a gray 2015 Toyota Camry driven by Jun-Jun Zheng, 38, of Toms River.

The impact caused the Jeep to overturn and it came to rest on its passenger side on the front lawn of a home, Vega said. Rodriguez and Fernandez were listed as stable at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, he said.

Zheng was not injured in the crash, he said.

Emergency medical technicians from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services and volunteer firefighters from the Ridgeway and Manchester Volunteer fire companies responded. Also assisting at the scene were paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health’s LifeFlight medevac helicopter, Toms River EMS, and Priced Rite Towing.

Patrolman Brendan Brush of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit is investigating.
