Evacuation Over At Manchester School: Police

Manchester police said the odor that prompted the evacuation has been safely cleared.

MANCHESTER, NJ — Students and staff have returned to the building at Manchester Township Elementary School on Wednesday morning following an evacuation, police said.

The school was evacuated due to an odor investigation, police said in an alert issued about 9:45 a.m.

A followup alert about 10:18 a.m. said the school had been safely cleared and students and staff allowed to return to the building.

Police did not give any indication of the nature of the odor or its source.

Manchester Superintendent Diane Pedroza said the district "worked closely with the local authorities and first responders to assess the situation and, after a thorough evaluation, the building was deemed safe," and operations returned to normal.
