Manchester Woman Killed In Monmouth Crash Identified

The Whiting resident was a devoted wife, beloved mother and cherished her grandchildren, her family said.

MANCHESTER, NJ — A Manchester Township woman who died of injuries suffered in a Freehold Township crash has been identified.

Joanne Fischer, 73, of Whiting, died after four vehicles collided at the intersection of Monmouth Road and Siloam Road at 9:38 a.m. on Jan. 7, police said.

Fischer was a devoted wife, a beloved mother of three children and grandmother to six "cherished grandchildren ... who were a constant source of joy and pride in her life," her obituary on the Horizon Funeral and Cremation Services website.

Police found Fischer trapped in one of the vehicles and severely injured. She was extricated and flown to an area hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, Freehold Township Detective Lt. Joseph Winowski said.

Patrolman William Sabin and the Freehold Township Police Department Serious Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call Sabin at 732-462-7908.
