Home Burglary, 2 Attempted Burglaries In Maplewood: Police

Several items were stolen during a home burglary in Maplewood. Two attempted home burglaries were also recently reported, police said.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — A home burglary and two attempted burglaries were recently reported in Maplewood, police say.

The Maplewood Police Department released the following details about each incident:

Jan. 3 (attempted burglary) – During the early morning hours, MPD patrols responded to a residence located on Hughes Street after getting a report about an attempted residential burglary. The resident said he and his wife heard someone trying to get into the home through a first-floor window. The suspect or suspects weren’t able to break into the home, and no damage was seen to the window, police said.

Jan. 4 (burglary) – During the early morning hours, MPD patrols responded to a home on Edgewood Place after getting a call about a burglary. The resident said that unknown suspects entered the home through a kitchen window, which may or may not have been secured. Police searched the area around the house and saw footprints outside the window and inside the home. Several items were reported stolen, police said.

Jan. 4 (attempted burglary) – MPD patrols responded to a home on Oakland Road after getting a report about an attempted residential burglary. The resident said that he saw surveillance video footage of an unknown man trying to get into the home. Police found evidence that a suspect tried to gain entry through a first-floor window. The suspect was about 5 feet 10 inches, and was wearing a black ski mask, a black North Face Jacket and black sweatpants. He was carrying a crowbar, police said.
