Maplewood's State Of Emergency: Revised Storm Predictions, Updates

NJ Transit buses were suspended for Saturday morning. Maplewood will have a warming center. See more updates and the updated forecast below.

When will the snow end on Saturday? A revised forecast says the storm could dump 5-9 inches of snow on Maplewood through 1 p.m.

Meanwhile, NJ Transit said, "NJ TRANSIT will temporarily suspend all bus, River LINE and Access Link services at the start of the service day on Saturday, Jan. 29. Service is anticipated to resume later in the dayas soon as it is safe to do so. Train service, Newark Light Rail and Hudson-Bergen Light Rail on Saturday will remain on regular weekend schedules" with possible delays.

The areas "down the shore" have been under a blizzard warning.

The Township declared a State of Emergency Friday and released the following information:

For downed power lines, call:

  • JCP&L: 1-888-LIGHTSS (544-4877) or www.firstenergycorp.com.
  • PSE&G: 1-800-436-PSEG (7734) or text "OUT" to 4PSEG
  • PD non-emergency line: (973) 762-1234

Downed wires should always be considered "live," and residents should remain at least 30 feet away. Anyone traveling in a large vehicle should be cautious of low-hanging wires. Please note that downed wires can be hidden in snow or standing water.

Those who rely on electric-powered medical equipment should notify their energy provider in advance of the storm, as well as the Maplewood Fire Department/EMS:

  • Maplewood Fire/EMS non-emergency line: (973) 762-6500

Maplewood PD will remain open overnight as an emergency heating center; the DeHart Community Center may be opened as a heating center in response to community need. In the meantime, those in need of heat or shelter should contact:
