If the Bra Fits ... But Often It Doesn't

With bras on display on Floods Hill, local women may want to choose wisely.

Let’s talk about support, ladies. When we gather on hundreds of us will put aside our t’s and tanks and pose for a photo wearing white bras. If ever we have needed serious foundation garments, it’s now.

Of course, notes Robyn of , whose store is donating a watch to the event, “a good foundation makes your outerwear look better too.”

So what makes for a well-fitting bra? Statistics suggest that as many as eight of 10 women own and often wear the wrong size bras.

“Yes, absolutely,” agrees Robyn. One of her first jobs was working in the lingerie department of Bloomingdale’s in Short Hills. “It’s amazing how many women have the wrong size or type of bra.”

The correct bra, explains Robyn, “makes a woman and her clothes look that much better. It’s an investment in comfort and appearance.”

A bra should close on the middle hook in the back, explains Robyn, and shouldn’t ride up.

A bra should fit close to the body in front, without “spillage.” Full-coverage is important, says Robyn.

A bra shouldn’t be visible. Robyn advises women to choose a color as close to their own skin tone as possible for everyday wear, and especially under white tops. She also suggests that women purchase a black bra, as well, for wear under dark clothing.

Robyn advises women to care for their bras as they would other delicate clothing. “Wash with a mild soap,” she says, “and hand to dry. Never put them in the dryer.”

And, finally, expect to replace bras annually, and, says Robyn, “get measured every time!”

The correct size and style “gives you a lift,” says Robyn, “in appearance, comfort and even confidence.”

Support will be visible – and confidence in good supply – on Oct. 1, at 8 a.m., on Floods Hill.  Hope to see you there!
