Major Recycling Changes In Maplewood Start This Week

Residents of Maplewood and South Orange will have to further separate their recycled materials starting this week.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — You may have made a new year's resolution not to take any more garbage, but someone has to take your garbage away. Now, Maplewood and South Orange will do it in a way that's better for the environment.

Starting this week, residents will need to separate their recycling materials into two categories for two pickups on alternating weeks, the town said.

One week, pickup will be exclusively for fibers (cardboard, paper) and the following week will be for commingled (plastic, glass, and metal containers).

"Cross-contaminated recycling loads or materials put out on the wrong week will not be picked up," the town warned.

They noted that, "The revised curbside pickup rhythm will begin each week in Maplewood (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday) and finish up each week in South Orange (Thursday and Friday)."
