Maplewood Candlelight Vigil: "Don't Bomb Syria"

South Mountain Peace Action chair, Paul Surovell of Maplewood NJ,  announced today that a vigil to oppose US military action against Syria will be held on Monday September 9, 2013 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The vigil is being held to demand that Congress vote "No" on President Obama's request for authorization to attack Syria with military force as well as to demand that the President refrain from military action in Syria. The vigil is one of more than 200 across the country that are being coordinated by MoveOn.org, an antiwar group.  South Mountain Peace Action is the local organizer. The vigil will feature a "speak out" in which local residents will be given the opportunity to express their concerns about another war by US forces in the Middle East. The vigil will culminate with the lighting of candles and a moment of silence in honor of soldiers and civilians killed and wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. South Mountain Peace Action is a community peace group based in Maplewood and South Orange NJ that advocates changing priorities from militarism to human needs and the environment.  Its website is at www.BeAboutPeace.com
