Maplewood In ‘High Risk’ Flood Area Of Storm, Local Officials Warn
A state of emergency has been declared in New Jersey. Here are some local updates in Maplewood.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Maplewood is battening down the hatches and preparing for impact from a storm – and it’s in an area that is at high risk of flooding, officials say.
A state of emergency has been declared in New Jersey ahead of strong storms that may cause flash flooding. Rainfall totals of one to three inches are generally expected, with localized amounts of five to seven inches possible. The state of emergency went into effect at 2 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for all of New Jersey, including Maplewood, which is currently in an area identified as having the “highest risk for severe flooding,” township officials noted.
“Maplewood’s police, fire and public works departments are actively preparing and will remain on alert throughout the storm,” officials added.

The Maplewood Police Department also issued a warning for local residents: "Severe thunderstorms are expected along with flooded roadways. Assume all downed wires are electrified and avoid them!"
Maplewood authorities shared the following safety tips:
- Avoid driving through flooded roads
- Secure outdoor items and check storm drains near your property
- Monitor local alerts and weather updates via National Weather Service or NOAA Weather Radio
- In case of emergency, dial 911
