Maplewood Police Investigate String of Burglaries

The Maplewood Police Department is investigating a string of thefts and burglaries from Sept. 3 to Sept. 7, according to police reports.

Police responded to a burglar alarm at a house on on Porter Road around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3. The officers noticed that a window was open but it did not appear that anything was missing, police said.

Police were called to another burglar alarm activation on Woodside Road at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5. Police found damage to a window and determined that someone had attempted to break in.

A home on Princeton Street was burglarized on Friday, Sept. 6 during daytime hours, according to a report. The home owner returned and found the home had been entered and jewelry had been stolen, police said. Another home on Oakview Road was burglarized on Saturday, Sept. 7 in which a neighbor reported the front door was open. Officers found that the house had been burglarized but did not have a list of missing items at the time of the report.

On Saturday, Sept. 7, a resident of Tuscan Road reported that a vehicle not belonging to them was parked in their driveway. Officers determined that the Dodge Stratus was stolen out of Union Township.

They also found that two cars on Tuscan Road and Courter Ave. had damage consistent with an attempted theft, police said.

“All incidents are currently under investigation by the Detective Bureau,” police said. “Residents are asked to practice good crime prevention techniques and secure their garages and automobiles when left unattended.”
