Snow In SOMA? See Weekly Weather Forecast, Driving Reminder

It's going to be an ugly week in Maplewood and South Orange, forecasters say. Watch out for slick roads if the snow starts falling.

SOUTH ORANGE-MAPLEWOOD, NJ — It’s going to be an ugly week (weather-wise) in Maplewood and South Orange, forecasters say.

The National Weather Service (NWS) is predicting snow across New Jersey on Tuesday and Wednesday, although some parts of the state may get hit worse than others. Read More: Back-To-Back Storms Kick Off In NJ

Here’s what is in store for the SOMA area, according to a special weather statement from the NWS:

“Light snow will overspread the area late [Tuesday] evening and continue through the early Wednesday morning hours. The snow will end before sunrise. Snowfall accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are forecast, locally up to 3 inches close to the south shore. Snow covered roads are expected, especially on untreated surfaces.”

“Use extra caution if you are traveling tonight,” forecasters advised.

The NWS shared the following local weather forecast for South Orange and Maplewood:

Tuesday Night: Snow, mainly before 4am. Low around 28. Calm wind becoming northeast around 6 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Wednesday: A 20 percent chance of snow before 8am. Cloudy, with a high near 37. Wind chill values between 20 and 25. Northeast wind 8 to 10 mph.

Wednesday Night: Snow and sleet likely before 9pm, then rain and sleet between 9pm and 11pm, then rain after 11pm. Low around 33. East wind around 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Thursday: Rain likely before 1pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 47. Northeast wind 8 to 13 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 26. West wind 10 to 14 mph.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 36.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25.

Saturday: Snow before 4pm, then rain and snow. High near 37. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Saturday Night: Rain. Low around 34. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Sunday: Rain. High near 46. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Sunday Night: A 40 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21.
