1 Killed In Rt. 18 Crash In Colts Neck

A New Jersey man died in a car crash in Colts Neck early Sunday morning after his car veered off the road, authorities said.

COLTS NECK, NJ — A car veered off the road in Colts Neck just before 3 a.m. on Sunday killing the passenger riding in it, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

The car was traveling southbound on Route 18 in the area of Milepost 20.8.

The passenger was a man from Edison and the driver was a woman from Seaside Heights.

The 2011 Mazda they were on traveled off the roadway to the right, crashed with a tree and overturned, coming to a final rest against another tree ending upside down in a drainage culvert, officials said.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene and the woman was taken to a local hospital with serious bodily injuries. Her injuries were, however, not life-threatening and she is currently in stable condition, according to officials.

The crash is still under investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team and the Colts Neck Police Department.
