Arrest Made In Carjacking From Marlboro Route 9 Car Wash

Marlboro police report a suspect in a carjacking from a Route 9 car wash in town is arrested; victim is OK after incident on Friday.

MARLBORO, NJ — Marlboro police announced an arrest in a carjacking that took place Friday at a Route 9 car wash.

The business reported the incident to Marlboro police Friday. Police shared the information with multiple agencies, the report said.

New Jersey State Police troopers then located and apprehended the suspect, police said.

Marlboro Township’s Auto Theft Task Force officer lodged "multiple complaints" against the accused, police said.

The victim of the carjacking was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

No other information was immediately available about the name or address of the accused or other details of the charges or about how the carjacking happened.

The incident is under investigation.

The Marlboro police also thanked the state State Police and Newark police for their assistance.

The last incident in the area of a car being taken from a car wash was in Red Bank in November when a car that was unlocked emerged from the car wash and was stolen. But it was a car theft, not a carjacking. The owner was inside the car wash.

Primarily expensive cars are being targeted in the state's car theft crime wave. State police data shows 14,320 vehicles were reported stolen in 2021 in New Jersey, a 22 percent rise from 2020.
