Bruce Springsteen Announces New Documentary, Release Date

COLTS NECK, NJ - A new documentary by Freehold native and legendary rocker Bruce Springsteen will premiere later this month on Apple TV.

The documentary, slated to depict the intimate recording process of Springsteen’s latest album Letter To You, will be available on Oct. 23, the same day as the record’s release. The black-and-white film is expected to zero-in on the five days that the musician and his E Street Band spent recording in his Colts Neck studio in 2019.

“‘Bruce Springsteen’s Letter to You captures Springsteen recording Letter To You live with the full E Street Band, and includes final take performances of ten originals from the new record,” reads an Apple TV release.

Produced by Springsteen and Ron Aniello, the new album will feature new tracks as well as outtakes from his older projects dating back to the 1970s. Read more: Bruce Springsteen Announces New Album For 2020, 'Letter To You'

“I love the emotional nature of Letter To You," Springsteen previously said in a statement. “And I love the sound of the E Street Band playing completely live in the studio, in a way we’ve never done before, and with no overdubs. We made the album in only five days, and it turned out to be one of the greatest recording experiences I’ve ever had.”

Directed by Thom Zimny (who also worked on the 2000 concert film Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band: Live in New York City), the documentary will also feature spoken word passages from the entertainer, Rolling Stone reports.

“We were doing a song every three hours,” guitarist Steve Van Zandt told Rolling Stone. “We basically cut the album in four days. We booked five days and on the fifth day we had nothing to do, so we just listened to it.”
