New Jersey is experiencing widespread flu activity this year.

The Colts Neck Health Department is offering tips to residents to avoid disaster this flu season.
The department released a tip sheet, letting residents know the department is monitoring the spread of the flu closely.

- Cover our mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough
- Wash your hands frequently
- Get a flu vaccination
Flu symptoms:
- fever
- cough
- sore throat
- runny or stuffy nose
- body aches
- headache
- chills
- fatigue
The department recommends anyone with the flu stay home at least 24 extra hours after symptoms disappear, to avoid further contamination and spreading.

The CDC recomments everyone over 6 months of age get a flu vaccination. According to the tip sheet, those with the vaccination are 62 percent less likely to visit a doctor due to illness from the flu.
