Colts Neck Lions Club Kentucky Derby Tasting To Aid Braille Trail

Enjoy the Kentucky Derby with a wine, beer, bourbon tasting May 4 by the Colts Neck Lions Club - and support Braille Trails, Beep Baseball.

COLTS NECK, NJ — The 150th Kentucky Derby is May 4, and you can celebrate it in style - and for a great Monmouth County cause - at the Colts Neck Lions Club tasting event.

This year, the club's wine, beer and bourbon tasting will help support the Monmouth County Braille Trails project.

The tasting, of course, will be on the day of the Kentucky Derby at Bucks Mill Park, organizers say.

"It’s a great opportunity to be in Colts Neck’s beautiful Bucks Mill Park, celebrate a fantastic race and support the Lions Club’s projects," organizers say.

This year, the club is working on Braille Trails, a project of the Monmouth County Parks System.

A Braille trail is a walking path or hiking trail that is designed to be accessible by those who are visually impaired.

In particular, trails are often delineated with ropes or other physical barriers, and signage and other markers have audio or are written in Braille.

The first of these Braille trails will be at the Manasquan Reservoir in Howell, planned for the coming months.

The second project is a Beep Baseball Tournament for visually impaired baseball players to be held this summer in Dorbrook Park in Colts Neck. In Beep Baseball, balls beep and bases buzz to allow the visually impaired get out on the field and enjoy the game.

"The Lions Club is excited to work on these projects and help our community and county," organizers say.

The tasting is for adults. The food trucks are Sweet Pepper Empanada and - new this year - Station 1 Seafood.
