Colts Neck Schools Getting Ready to Open on Monday

Each school will begin their first day back with advisory meetings.

Two weeks of school closure will come to an end in Colts Neck on Monday, and the administraition is looking forward to getting back to work.

In an email to parents on Tuesday, three principals came together to say Colts Neck students will immediately begin speaking about how to help those severely impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

"Through service-learning opportunities, fundraising efforts, and volunteerism, our students and staff will be empowered to share their gifts of kindness, generosity, and courage," the email said. "Students and staff members in Colts Neck will showcase the strength and courage of our community as we help others rebuild their homes and lives."

Returning to normal life is a priority for Colts Neck schools, as many families are still without heat and power and are displaced.

"Some have suffered severe property damage or loss; many still find themselves without electricity and heat; and so many are finding the overwhelming images of the devastated areas difficult to bear."

The district recommends parents visit the National Association of School Pyschologists website to find ways to speak to children about natural disasters.

In addition, the district will offer resources for group discussions, individual counseling and mentoring.

"We know that the strength and shared commitment of this community will lead to many opportunities for our students and staff to come through this storm with spirit and determination."
