Dan Marino Merges Business, Charity In Marlboro
Marino visited the Bella Vista Country Club to raise money for his autism foundation.
The heat didn't stop former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino from swinging the club at Bella Vista Country Club on Monday.
NFL Hall of Famer Marino spent time with his new business partners, Corporate Resource Services, in a join venture to promote the staffing company along with the Dan Marino Foundation for autism.
"They wanted to be involved in our foundation," Marino said. "My son Michael was diagnosed with autism when he was 2 years-old, now he's 24. He's a DJ in Ft. Lauderdale, he's making more money than all my other kids."
The Dan Marino Foundation was founded in 1992, after Marino's son was diagnosed with autism at age 2. Since its inception, the foundation has created a center for autism in Miami with Miami Children's Hospital and developed programs from diagnosis through adult life.
"We always thought we wanted to do something to help other kids have the same chances our son had in life," Marino said. "We're doing some other programs now to help transition teenagers into adulthood with life skills."
Marino said the Dan Marino Center in Miami is something he's most proud of, but it doesn't beat the feeling of hearing from a parent that their programs have helped a child.
"When a parent comes up to me and says our center has really helped them and their family, it just makes you feel really good," Marino said. "Today, I've been doing work with CRS and they are throwing this outing to help raise money for our foundation."
Corporate Resource Services became a publicly traded company five years ago, focusing on the staffing needs of everything from Fortune 500 companies to small mom and pop storefronts.
On Monday during the outing, CRS went from being a penny stock to worth $2.98.
"We think we have a recession-proof business," said President of Sales Frank Vaccaro.
Vaccaro said company has teamed up with Marino to create a mutually beneficial relationship, giving the company credibility while the Dan Marino Foundation generates more useful contacts.
"He's a regular guy was a great business mind who does tremendous charity work," Vaccaro said.
The Bella Vista event in Marlboro highlighted both the foundation and CRS, complete with a commercial featuring Marino and a raffle with priceless Marino prizes.
