Why do you want to run for the school board and what in your experience or background prepares you for election:

As a current Board of Education member with a master's in Education and a mother of two children who currently attend Marlboro Township public schools, I am very much invested in the success of our students.

I have worked in the Marlboro schools as a substitute and know the curriculum. As this is an unpaid, volunteer position, I am devoting my time and effort to better the education of our students. As an educator and a parent, I feel it is very important to have parents and teachers work together. This will ensure our children education to be the best it can be.

Name what you see as the top issues currently facing your district and how you plan to address them. These can be local issues and/or statewide issues:

  • I feel the top issues currently facing our district are the directives being sent down from the Department of Education relating to curriculum. If parents, teachers, administration, and board members can work together, we can continue to have a wonderful education for our children.
  • Another challenge is safety. We want to ensure that all students, school employees, and visitors feel safe in the schools and on the school grounds. To address safety, we have started a Safety, Security, and Mental Health committee within the Board of Education of which I am the chair. I would like to continue on this committee to utilize any tools available to us within the community to keep our schools safe.

What changes or improvements do you see for the district that could enhance educational life and is there a way you might accomplish that:

A goal I would have is more consistency for special education students. Most are getting moved around from school to school every year and I feel they should be in the same school throughout their elementary years. Moving them around can only hurt their learning. I would like to work with special education coordinators to see how we can keep our special education students in one school.
