Marlboro Route 18 Crash Tuesday Remains Under Investigation
Marlboro police say a school bus with no students was struck by a tractor trailer Tuesday afternoon on Route 18, causing a fuel spill.
MARLBORO, NJ — A crash Tuesday afternoon involving a school bus with no students and a tractor trailer closed Route 18 in Marlboro and the road remained closed through most of Tuesday night, police said.
The accident involved a fuel spill, making the cleanup more difficult.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation by Marlboro authorities, the county prosecutor's office said.

Here was what is known happened so far, according to police:
At about 3:03 p.m. Tuesday, the Marlboro Township Police Department received multiple 911 phone calls in reference to the crash on Route 18 south.

A school bus, occupied only by the driver, was traveling Route 18 southbound. The school bus was struck by a tractor trailer, police said.
As a result of the crash the tanker overturned and spilled fuel onto the highway.
The driver of the tractor trailer was airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, police said.
Both lanes of Route 18 northbound and southbound were shut down for hours Tuesday while police investigated the crash and the site was cleared. The road was closed between Route 79 and Route 520, police said.
Responding to the scene of the crash were members of the Marlboro Township Police Department, Marlboro Township O.E.M., Marlboro First Aid Squad, Marlboro Fire Department, Robertsville Fire Department, Old Bridge Police Department, New Jersey State Police, Monmouth County HazMat, paramedics from Atlantic Health and the state Department of Transportation.
Patrolman Christopher VanCuren of the Marlboro Township Police Department Traffic and Safety Unit is investigating the crash.
