When the Disney Channel movie premiered in 2006, it broke cable network rating records, and its soundtrack went on to become the best-selling album of the year. A short time later, Disney Theatrical Productions went to work to adapt High School Musical to the stage, attracting a new generation of theatergoers.
The stage version became the most licensed new musical in history, with over 2,500 separate productions worldwide in its first year. The stage is directed and choreographed by teachers John Lissaris, Robin Shatsky and Cassandra Persinger, and the set is designed by teacher Cynthia Hicks and her stage crew of students.
