- What: Freehold reading of the Declaration of Independence
- Where: Freehold Fire House, 49 W. Main St.
- When: 9 a.m. July 4
Freehold Borough will have a reading of the Declaration of Independence with the help of members of our community on Tuesday, July 4, at 9 a.m. at Freehold Fire House, 49 W. Main St. Witness the delivery of the document to a special historical guest.
The Declaration will be read in its entirety by members of the governing body, local officials and members of the community. Then, to commemorate the Second Continental Congress, the bell atop the historic fire house will toll once for each of the original 13 colonies that signed the Declaration, then for each state that has joined the union since.
Enjoy the moving vocals of Bernadine Wilson of Bethel AME Church, signing "God Bless America" and the National Anthem. It is a wonderful way to appreciate our nation’s beginning and understand what Independence Day is really about.
If you would like to participate and read a line or two of the document, please come by 8:30 a.m. so you can be assigned a position in the line-up. All are welcome to be readers, even children. This a rain or shine event. If it does rain, it will be held inside the firehouse.
