MORGANVILLE, NJ — Emergency veterinarian Dr. Lynsey Victoria said she was looking for something to one day pass down to her daughter when the idea to start “Little Grey’s Books” came to her.

Victoria, 37, has been a veterinarian for almost 11 years. After becoming a single mom around a year and a half ago, she started “Little Grey’s Books,” which she uses to write and share stories inspired by life with her daughter, Gracelyn.

“The whole point of the company was really to have something that I can give my daughter when I’m not here one day,” Victoria said. “At this point, it’s really centered around the books — I have to see where it’s going to go or where I can take it.”

Victoria’s first book, “Good Morning Big Apple,” came out in 2024 and looks to empower women and parents to get out of the house and go on an adventure – no matter how small.

The story is based on Victoria’s own relationship with her daughter, as well as her experiences in parenting.

“It’s a hard thing to go through the first few months of being a new parent,” Victoria said. “But it’s important to be present and be purposeful each day, and know that you have a good support system at the end of the day.”

After the release of her first book, Victoria’s second book, “Goodbye For Now,” came out toward the start of 2025 in both English and Spanish.

According to Victoria, the book was a "huge passion project" for her, and when inspiration struck for the story, she ended up writing the book in one morning in the notes section of her phone.

“The project is meant to help families around the world,” Victoria said. “I wanted to reach every vet hospital, every social worker – anyone that could benefit from being able to go through the stages of grief and understand they’re not alone in such a heartfelt time.”

While Victoria’s books are for audiences worldwide, they’re also for (and inspired by) her daughter, who has been able to grow up alongside her mother’s stories.

Though she was only a little over three years old when Victoria first started writing, Victoria said her daughter has since been able to connect characters in her books with her own life and pick up on the emotions that characters are experiencing.

“She’s the main character,” Victoria said. “I don’t think she realized it at first, but I put things like her classroom, her Fisher Price veterinary office, and things like that in the books, so she was able to recognize that, and she was excited about it.”

As her daughter has grown up, Victoria’s writing career has also grown alongside her and expanded into new areas.

In March, she announced that she was invited to co-author on “Becoming An Unstoppable Woman: Rise of the Phoenix,” which is set to release in September.

The collection, which features an array of stories about resilience from female authors, inspired Victoria to write about her own experiences in the medical field and how she’s overcome different challenges.

“I wrote about my triumphs being a veterinary student, going through a path that I didn’t think I would initially take and what that looked like,” Victoria said. “It’s about how I’ve triumphed through everything and how I’m a leader today in my field.”

Going forward, Victoria hopes to continue “Little Grey’s Books” and continue writing stories for a variety of audiences – whether that’s families, social workers, other veterinarians, or women looking for some inspiration.

"Being a woman and having the strength to move past really difficult situations and come out on top — it's just incredible," Victoria said.
