What drove you to seek public office?
I am currently 69 years old and have lived in Marlboro since 1989, where my wife and I raised our children and where I now enjoy watching my three granddaughters grow – two of whom currently attend Marlboro schools.
For a total of 14 years, I have proudly served on the Marlboro Board of Education, including multiple terms as both Vice President and President. I am now seeking re-election to continue my service for another three-year term.
What sets you apart from other candidates?
Throughout my tenure, I have been committed to the safety, security, and success of all students. I worked closely with the Township and law enforcement to make Marlboro the first district in New Jersey to place an armed police officer in every school, a milestone achieved under my leadership.
Many of the district’s current security protocols and procedures were developed during my time chairing this committee, and as Board President, reflecting my belief that a safe environment is the foundation for effective learning.
What are past accomplishments or experiences that make you qualified for this position?
Professionally, I spent more than 45 years in the transportation industry, serving as part-owner of Allied Brothers Intermodal, Inc.
My background in employee relations, safety and security, business finance, and administration has given me the skills to navigate complex issues and collaborate effectively.
Since retiring two years ago, I have been able to devote even more of my time and energy to supporting Marlboro’s schools. In addition to chairing the Safety and Security Committee, I also currently serve on the Communications, Buildings and Grounds, and Advisory Committees.
If elected, what will be your top priorities in your new role?
My top priority will continue to be the safety and security of every student, teacher, and staff member in our district.
I will build on the foundation I helped establish over the past decade, from placing armed officers in every school to strengthening our security policies and infrastructure, by continuing to work closely with law enforcement, township officials, and school administrators to adapt to emerging challenges.
In addition, I will focus on three key areas:
- Educational Excellence: Support initiatives that provide our students with the strongest possible academic programs, while ensuring that teachers have the resources they need to succeed.
- Fiscal Responsibility: Maintain transparency and accountability in budgeting so that taxpayer dollars are used wisely, balancing innovation with long-term financial stability.
- Community Engagement: Strengthen communication between the Board, parents, and the broader community so that all stakeholders are informed, heard, and involved in the success of our schools.
While I am proud of all that I have accomplished in my 14 years on the Board, I consider the progress made since 2012 among my most meaningful contributions.
Following the Sandy Hook tragedy, as Board President, I led a comprehensive effort with local police, township officials, administration, and staff to strengthen security immediately and for the long term.
Within weeks, we secured an agreement with the Township to place armed officers in every Marlboro school – an initiative that has since become a model for others. Much of the safety infrastructure and policy framework in place today stems from those efforts.
Out of respect for security, I will not list details publicly, but I can assure our community that safety will remain my top priority. If re-elected, I will continue to advance measures that protect our students, teachers, and staff while ensuring that Marlboro remains a leader in educational excellence and security.
Name one thing about Marlboro that always makes you smile.
The thing about Marlboro that makes me smile is all the connections I have made and will continue to make with all my fellow residents of Marlboro during my tenure on the Board.
Those person-to-person connections help me to get the pulse of our community and assist me as I make crucial decisions. It is so important to me to remain connected to the Marlboro community.
