Marlboro Council Reorganization Meeting Is Set For Thursday

MARLBORO, NJ — The Township Council will reorganize for the new year at a meeting Thursday, Jan. 4, at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.

Mayor Jonathan Hornik and Councilman Michael Scalea and Councilwoman-Elect Iqleen K. Virdi, who all won election in November, will be sworn into office.

Hornik has served as mayor since January 2008. He was elected in November to another four-year term.

Scalea has served as a councilman from 2015 to the present. Virdi will be sworn into her first term on the council. She will replace Democrat Randi Marder, who chose not to seek re-election. Council terms are four years.

Hornik ran as a team with fellow Democrats Scalea and Virdi. He has said his focus as mayor has been on safety, fiscal responsibility, infrastructure and open space. State Sen. Vin Gopal will swear in Hornik.

The invocation at the meeting will be presented by Rabbi Yossi Kanelski, Center for Jewish Life.

"Words of Wisdom in Governance" will be presented by Rabbi Michael Pont, Marlboro Jewish Center.

Hornik will present a State of the Township address. He will then swear in Scalea and Virdi.

"Words of Success" will be presented by Pastor Ken Jasko, Monmouth Worship Center.

The meeting will also include the election of the council president and vice president.

The council will approve appointments and re-appointments of many professionals for the township and volunteers for local government boards and committees. See the agenda of the meeting here for the list of appointments.

The meeting will end with a benediction by Dr. Shahid Farooqui, Muslim Center of New Jersey, according to the agenda.
