Marlboro Martial Arts Students Raise Over $1K For St. Jude Children’s Hospital

The fundraising event was held at Resilience Martial Arts Academy and run by the academy's Leadership & Legacy students.

MORGANVILLE, NJ — Compassion and community spirit were at the forefront of a recent fundraising event at Resilience Martial Arts Academy in Morganville.

The fundraising event — called the “St. Jude Charity Market” — took place at the academy on March 31 and raised over $1,800 to benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

The market was organized by the academy's Senior Master & Owner Laurie Swanson and Manager Jason Lewis.

Though it was organized by academy officials, the event itself was run by the school’s Leadership & Legacy students.

“This event was a true testament to what our leadership program is all about — empowering kids to make a difference,” Swanson said. “Seeing our students take initiative, work hard, and give back to others was incredibly rewarding.”

At the market, each student was responsible for creating and selling their own products, academy officials said, helping them to develop entrepreneurial skills while contributing to a greater cause.

The event featured a wide variety of handmade and homemade items for people to shop from, including rice crispy treats, cookies, brownies, banana bread, cupcakes, donuts, muffins, lemonade, paintings, comic books, bracelets, legos and more.

Families and community members came out in full support of the event, Swanson said, turning the evening into a celebration of leadership, service, and kindness.

“Resilience Martial Arts Academy is proud of its students and grateful for the community’s involvement in making the fundraiser such a success,” Swanson said.
