Marlboro's Teen Advisory Committee Will Have Elections In October

Six seats are up for grabs. The election will be on Oct. 28 and every registered member is eligible to participate.

MARLBORO — Attention Marlboro teens who want to get involved with local government and township affairs! Applications are open for the 2021/2022 Teen Advisory Committee's (TAC) Executive Committee.

"This will be a terrific leadership opportunity for them, and one that will shed a positive light on their college application one day soon," council members said in a joint statement.

TAC currently has over 2100 registered members and is open to all Marlboro Township teens between the ages of 12 and 18. It was formed in 2007 in an effort to give the teens of Marlboro a voice in our local government and to enhance their leadership skills.

Six seats are up for grabs. The election will be on Oct. 28 and every registered TAC member is eligible to participate.

"Considering the number of applicants in the past, if your teen runs s/he will likely have an excellent chance of becoming a member of TAC’s Executive Committee," officials said.

As an executive committee member, they will be a part of the small group of teens that sets the agendas and presides over all TAC meetings and will work more closely with TAC’s adult facilitators on improving their leadership skills.

The deadline for submission is Oct. 15.

In order to run, teens will have to submit an "expression of interest" e-mail to TAC@marlboro-nj.gov stating their interest, as well as their qualifications for the position. If applicable, they should also describe their involvement and work with the Teen Advisory Committee to date and any other community service work and leadership programs.

"Simply going through the process itself is a tremendous learning and leadership development opportunity, even if ultimately they do not receive enough votes to win a seat," officials said.

If they are not yet a TAC member, they need to first apply here.
