Multi-Cultural Day In Marlboro Will Present A World Of Diversity

Multi-Cultural Day will be celebrated at Marlboro High School on Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., with artistic performances, exhibits, foods.

MARLBORO, NJ — The Marlboro Multi-Cultural Day Committee will present it’s 13th Annual Multi-Cultural Day on Sunday, Dec. 4, and the community can look forward to diverse performances, cultural exhibits and ethnic foods.

The events will take place at Marlboro High School, 95 N. Main St., on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The ethnic groups' performances will take place between 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Cultural exhibits will be scheduled from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., according to the township. Admission is free.

And this marks a return of the event to the community after the COVID pandemic.

Marlboro Multi-Cultural Day is diversity at its best, organizers say.

"Members of the community are united by the reality that all colors and all cultures are distinct and individual. We are harmonious in the reality that we are all held to this Earth by the same gravity," the program for the event says.

"We, as a community, must look at these differences, respect these differences, learn from and about these differences, and grow in and with these differences," it continues.

Welcome remarks will be presented by Committee Chairperson Alice Ng and Marlboro Mayor Jonathan Hornik. Masters of ceremony are Anusha Sharma and Sharabh Ojha.

The Pledge of Allegiance will be led by Marlboro Boy Scouts Troop #86 and Girl Scouts Troop #60254.

"Star Spangled Banner" and "America the Beautiful" will be performed by by 4th- and 5th-grade Students of Marlboro Elementary School led by Eileen O’Driscoll.

There are 14 cultural performances and the program will give lots of explanation about the meaningfulness of the selections.

  • USA: "Ragged Old Flag," a patriotic tribute to endurance
  • China: Cheung’s Martial Arts: Wushu Tai Chi
  • India: Devi Suktham (Bharatanatyam)
  • China: Silk Road dance
  • Poland: Accordion Medley
  • India: Medley of Bollywood Songs
  • Tibet: Tibetan Girls, dance
  • Lithuania: Lithuanian folk dances: Noriu Miego
  • India: "Mille Sur Mera Tumhara" ("Unity in Diversity")
  • China: "Mei Ren Yin," "A Song of Beauty"
  • Ireland: "The Blonde Witch and the Spotted Dog" dance
  • Taiwan: Chinese Yo Yo Medley
  • Trinidad: Soca Dance
  • India: Classical Bharatanatyam Dance

The finale will be the singing of the traditional "It's a Small World" with everyone joining in.

After the performances, guests are invited to visit the cafeteria for cultural displays, crafts and food tasting.

Volunteers for the event include:

  • Stage Crew: students: Sam Fung, Aiden Fung; photographer/videographer Ray Lewis and David Tehrani; adult and student volunteer groups; Marlboro High School Leo Club; Marlboro Teen Advisory Committee; Marlboro Township CERT Team.

Marlboro Multi-Cultural Day Committee Members are:

  • Sui Allex, Fei Chan, Mary Eng, Randy Faiella, Terry Lau, Sui Louie, Alice Ng, Emily Qin, Louis Rodriguez, Cheryl Scuorzo, David Tehrani, Xiaohua Tong, Rita Verma, and Wai Yuen.

The Marlboro Multi-Cultural Day Committee also wishes to express its gratitude to the Marlboro Township Mayor’s Office, the Marlboro Police Department and Marlboro High School for their support throughout the event, the organizers say.
