NWS Earle Operating Without Non-Essential Personnel

Basic military and emergency operations are moving ahead as usual at Naval Weapons Station Earle following the government shutdown according to the base Executive Officer.

Lt. Commander John Dunne said starting this morning non-essential personnel began an “orderly shutdown,” before they were sent home. Dunne said he did not know how the exact number of people sent home but that the base’s military operations were moving forward. Dunne added that training and travel for military and civilian personnel had been “disrupted,” by the shutdown.

The normal operations, he said, include military and emergency operations including the base’s fire department. For base personnel all recreation and quality of life facilities remain open as they are supporting the base’s military functions Dunne added.
