Man Killed, 2 Injured In Monmouth County Crash

The crash occurred early Monday on Route 18 northbound when a vehicle ran off the right-hand side of the road, prosecutors said.

MARLBORO, NJ — The cause of a fatal crash on Route 18 in Marlboro Township is under investigation, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago announced Wednesday morning.

Around 5 a.m. on Monday, members of the Marlboro Township Police Department responded to Route 18 northbound just south of Exit 29 for a report of a motor vehicle crash.

A preliminary investigation found that a man driving a 2014 Mercedes was traveling north on Route 18 when the vehicle ran off the right-hand side of the road, prosecutors said.

As a result of the crash, authorities said a male front-seat passenger succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 5:41 a.m. The driver and a male back-seat passenger were taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Authorities did not release the names of the driver or passengers. No charges or summonses have been issued with regard to the incident at this time, Santiago said.

An investigation involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART) and the Marlboro Township Police Department is active and ongoing.
