Police Investigating Fatal Car Accident Involving Marlboro Man on Route 34

The Holmdel Police Department is currently investigating an accident that occurred late on Friday night on Route 34 in the township.

The Holmdel Township Police Department is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred on State Highway 34 on Friday night.

According to police, a 2008 Chrysler minivan, driven by Robert Pennington of Marlboro, was traveling south bound on Route 34 in the area of East Lawn Drive at approximately 11:40 p.m. on December 5 when it struck a separate vehicle.

A 2008 Hyundai Accent driven by Siva Kovvuri, age 32 of Parlin, was traveling north bound on Route 34 when both vehicles collided. Kovvuri sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead by responding emergency personnel at the scene, according to Holmdel Police Lt. Michael Smith.

Robert Pennington was transported to Bayshore Hospital in Holmdel, where he was treated and released, according to Lt. Smith.

Highway 34 was closed for approximately 7 hours during the investigation.

The Holmdel Township Police Department and the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (S.C.A.R.T.) will continue the investigation. Any witnesses are asked to contact the Holmdel Police Traffic Safety Unit at 732-946-4400.

The Holmdel Police Department will release additional details of this investigation as it becomes available.
