19 Cats Rescued From Old Bridge 'House Of Horrors:' Report

One animal welfare group called the Pewter Court condo in Society Hill "a house of horrors."

OLD BRIDGE, NJ — Nineteen cats were removed from a home in Old Bridge last Thursday in what animal welfare advocates say was a hoarding situation.

Old Bridge Police visited the Pewter Court home on Aug. 3 for a welfare check, after neighbors had called the homeowners' association for the past two years to look into animal hoarding there, according to the Home News Tribune.

This is a condo in the Society Hill complex in Old Bridge.

After the officer "smelled a strong odor of cat urine," police entered the home, and the Old Bridge code enforcement, Animal Control and Health Department were called in.

Some of the cats are currently being homed by Happy Homes Animal Rescue, which called the Pewter Court condo "a house of horrors."

"Imagine spending your entire life in filth, breathing in urine and feces, covered in fleas, starving?" they wrote on their Facebook page Tuesday. "Lucky is the one of the cats we recently rescued the Old Bridge house of horrors and we can tell you how happy she is to be safe at last .. Our work isn’t done yet. There are still cats trapped inside this house that we would love to save."
