Old Bridge Football/Cheer Teams Also Missing Money; PTA Member Removed

Two Old Bridge school PTAs, Jonas Salk Middle and Grissom Elementary, say they discovered missing money, and a PTA member was removed.

OLD BRIDGE, NJ — The Old Bridge superintendent of schools has now confirmed a criminal investigation is underway into missing money from two Old Bridge parent teacher associations (PTAs).

Plus a third organization, the Old Bridge Rebels youth Football & Cheer Association is being investigated for missing money, as well.

The two school PTAs are Grissom Elementary School PTA and Jonas Salk Middle School PTA.

"Old Bridge Township school district officials are aware of the matter," superintendent David Cittadino told Patch. "We were notified that the Grissom and Salk School PTAs reported the financial irregularities to NJPTA officials and are working collaboratively with the Old Bridge Township Police Department, who are investigating the matter."

The Grissom PTA Board also said they removed a member of their PTA board, but did not name the board member.

It was Grissom Elementary School PTA that first notified parents on Monday, sending a letter out that said there was an "issue" discovered with their financial accounts.

Then on Tuesday, Jonas Salk Middle School PTA sent a separate letter to parents in that school, saying "Jonas Salk PTA has been a victim of lost funds."

Neither PTA Board nor the superintendent will say how much money is missing.

"We discovered an issue with the Grissom PTA Financials involving a member of the board," read the letter from Grissom Elementary PTA this week. "The Grissom PTA has taken the necessary action to remove the board member in question and the incident has been reported to the Old Bridge Police Department who are actively investigating the matter."

Old Bridge Police and the Middlesex County Prosecutor did not respond to a request for more information.

"We are unable to comment further as this is an active criminal investigation," said superintendent Cittadino.
