There Were Zero Fatalities, Zero Bad Accidents On Rt. 9 In Old Bridge This Year, And That's No Accident

Old Bridge Police Chief Thomas Montagna gives an update on Rt. 9, the area's most lethal roadway:

OLD BRIDGE, NJ — Old Bridge Twp. Police Chief Thomas Montagna reported that for the entire year of 2025, the Township did not have a single serious motor vehicle crash on Rt. 9.

A serious motor vehicle crash is one so severe it requires a response from their serious/fatal accident response team.

"And we had zero fatal crashes on that roadway. This is a major accomplishment," he said. "This success did not happen by accident. Over the last two years, I directed our officers to focus heavily on traffic enforcement along Rt. 9. Many of you may have noticed increased patrols, more motor vehicle stops, and a stronger presence in the high-risk areas."

Montagna said he wanted his officers to be highly visible on Rt. 9 with a clear goal: Drivers to slow down and drive more cautiously.

"Because of that hard work — and because many of you are driving more safely — we saw a clear downward trend in serious crashes. Fewer people were hurt, fewer families received life-changing phone calls, and our community became safer," he said this week.

"We will continue these efforts into the coming year to keep Rt. 9 safe for everyone who travels it."
