Aberdeen Opens Cooling Centers Thursday And Friday

Aberdeen Town Hall and the Cliffwood Beach Community Center are now open Thursday and Friday as cooling centers. The public is welcome:

ABERDEEN, NJ — Aberdeen Town Hall and the Fiorendo Sigismondi Community Center (also known as the Cliffwood Beach Community Center) will both be open Thursday and Friday as cooling centers.

The public is welcome to come use them from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. as a cooling and charging center.

"Feel free to come here to beat the heat," says Aberdeen Township.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Thursday and an extreme heat warning for Friday, with temperatures expected to hover around 100 degrees. They say the combination of heat and humidity is "expected to make it feel like it is 105 degrees or greater."

Anyone who has been overcome by heat "should be moved to a cool and shaded location," said the National Weather Service. In cases of heat stroke, call 911.

People at increased risk of heat-related illnesses include seniors, people with chronic health problems, and people with mental health conditions, according to the NWS.

"Homes without air conditioning can be much hotter than outdoor temperatures," NWS officials said. "Use air conditioning to stay cool at home or go to a place that has air conditioning. Check on vulnerable friends, family members and neighbors."
